Christmas Wreath Ideas - How To Make Feather Boa Wreath
77Legend Of The Holly Wreath
The Legend of the Holly Wreath
A young orphan boy was living with the shepherds when the herald angels appeared announcing the glad tidings of Christ's birth. On the way to Bethlehem, the child wove a crown of holly branches for the newborn king. But when he lay it before Jesus, the crown looked so unworthy that the little shepherd became ashamed of his gift and began to cry. Then the Christ Child reached out, touched the crown, caused its leaves to sparkle shiny and green, and turned the orphan's tears into scarlet berries.
Traditionally Wreaths were used just at Christmas time. Now with all the great decorating ideas you can make a wreath for any season.
I remember back in the day, we would use wire coat hangers and bread ties or sewing thread to tie real pine trimmings from our tree to the wire hanger to make a wreath.
I think a Christmas wreath on your door is very warm and welcoming. You can make a wreath from things you find outside around your yard. I have grapevine, pine cones, pine branches, twigs and dried flowers. After you have gathered what you will be using then you can go to a dollar store and pick up other decorations to add to your wreath.
Pick up, a hot glue gun, don't forget glue sticks, thin floral wire, bows and some greenery pins. Greenery pins are U shaped making it easy to attach decorations to your wreath. Spray glitter adds nice sparkle to your wreath.
There are different forms you can use, foam, grapevine, wire and traditional wreaths.
You can also make your wreath from pine tree boughs, these are nice if you are placing your Christmas wreath inside because of their pleasant odor. Use the wire to attach the pine boughs to the form.
Less Is More
How To Make a Feather Boa Wreath
A white feather boa wreath is cool because it resembles snow. Any snow themed ornament you use on your wreath will be fine. A white boa wreath looks great hanging on a mirror.
When making a white feather boa wreath, it is good to use blue and silver decoration. Use a White feather boa. Extra is good. A 14 inch white foam wreath, U pins, hot glue, ice blue or silver bow.
Wrap the feather boa around the foam wreath pinning it as you go. You can add some pine sprigs, blue and silver bells, snow flakes with glitter, small Christmas tree balls by hot gluing or tying on with the floral wire. You can cluster 3 or four together add three clusters around wreath or leave plain and hang from the ribbon. What ever your taste. I think less is more on the white feather boa wreath.
This idea of using a feather boa make nice decorations for a wedding too!
Christmas Door Swag
A Christmas door swag is so easy to make. You can use the pine branches you trim off your tree or go to where they sell live trees and ask if you can have some of the trimmings they have laying around. You can do this for your wreath too.
Leave some long and cut some shorter. Grab together and tie the branch ends together with wire. Add a nice bow to the top to cover the branch ends and hang. That's it!
When I use real greens, I keep a spray water bottle handy so i can give it a good spray everyday.
Bucket Wreath
A Bucket Wreath is easy to make. Go to a craft store, Home Depot or anywhere you know you can pick one of these buckets up. The buckets come in wicker and tin.
Most times you see them filled with flowers hanging on a fence or next to someones door. They are flat on the backside.
Take the same things that you would use to make a wreath and fill the bucket, hang by or on your door. Because they are flat on the backside, look good hanging on a wall indoors too.
Rag Wreath
If you want an old fashion looking wreath, you can make a Rag Wreath. This is fun and the kids like to do this one.
Pick some material you like. It can be scraps you already have. Cut strips about 6" long, take a wire hanger stretch it out to form a circle. Leave the hook part on, you will use it to hang your wreath. Tie the rags on all around the wreath. Pack them tight so it will look full. You can add other ornaments to it if you like.
I don't have a picture for this yet. I don't feel like dragging my Christmas stuff out yet. When I do, I will add the picture. Unless you insist. LOL
Over The Door Wreath Hangers
I have a metal front door, so it is hard for me to hang anything on it. These Over The Door Hangers are great.
Magnet holders do not hold enough and slide or fall off the door.
The lighted wreaths use batteries and can be heavy.
If you have nice wooden doors you don't want to make holes with nails or tacks. I use mine year round. I hang a wreath for each season.
The door hangers can be used on interior doors too. You can hang a wreath or sign on your camper too.
