Looking To Adopt A Child - Children Need Homes

Looking to Adopt - Start in your own backyard

I became so angry last night while watching television. I must have seen at least five commercials with famous people begging you to adopt a pet. Since when has a pet become more important then a human being?

IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO ADOPT

There are so many children without homes or families, some living on the streets and in shelters. Adopt a pet! You have got to be kidding me.

When you do see a commercial with a famous person asking you to adopt a child, it is about adopting a child from another country. What is wrong with people? Anyway, why would you want to take these children away from their culture. Don't we have enough people here in the US. already? Do we not have many, many children here in the US. that need homes?

I keep hearing this bullcrap that it cost to much and there is too much red tape to adopt in the US. That is a load of crap!

I have researched it. If you adopt a child that is in the guardianship of local children services or foster care (a waiting child ) in your state, they DO NOT charge any fees. Of course you will need a lawyer, so there will be his fee and court fees. If you choose to adopt a child with special needs, you may be eligible for reimbursement of these expenses.

A tax credit is an amount that subtracted from one's total tax liability, and is therefore more valuable than a tax deduction. Knowing that tax relief is forthcoming may allow a family to pay attorney fees or court costs, which can later be offset by the tax credit.

New federal legislation that increases tax credits and exclusions for all adoptive families was passed in June, 2001. The Hope for Children Act (Public Law 107-16), which took effect on January 1, 2001, provides an adoption tax credit of $10,000 for all adoptions from 2002 and thereafter, and a tax exclusion of up to $10,000 for employer-provided adoption benefits, effective in 2003.

Employee Benefits

A growing number of companies and government agencies are offering adoption benefits to their employees. Check with your employer to find out your company's policies. Benefits may include:

  • adoption information and referral services
  • legal expenses
  • agency fees
  • medical expenses
  • post adoption counseling
  • paid or unpaid leave time for the adoptive parent
  • financial reimbursemen

There are many children with special needs waiting to be adopted You may be thinking, why would I want to adopt a child with special needs. Well what do you think you will be getting when you adopt out of the country? . Those children will need to learn a new language and culture. You can not find out if that child's parents had some kind of physical or mental handicap, that child may develop in a few years down the road. And cost? Come on, it costs a small fortune just to travel to another country. How many times will you need to go back and fourth?

I could go on and on about this but I won't, I have had two much coffee this morning and it will turn into a serious rant. I am so upset about the number of people looking to adopt that go out of the country when we have so many children here in the United States that need them.

Tina, slow to the show, people get more notoriety and US funds for adopting over seas than they do in the US. Albeit there are a good amount of funds for adopting US kids.

I'm to old, live too rough to be approved to adopt a kid that would have to be at-least 10 y/o to live this style, and while I think one would enjoy it as a kid I doubt the powers that inspect residences would cringe at my hovel of a self sufficient home.

Here lies a lifestyle that as a kid I'd have run in a second to give it a whirl. So much to experience of the old ways of life, that made men from boys at a grand pace. I buy my dogs but their are always 4 to 10 here being fed back from skin and bone and returned to life with people who kicked them in the ribs running them off when they wanted water or half your bologna sandwich. All victims of being dumped on the dirt road that folks think leads to no where, and it is certain slow death of no water or food. Some are so far gone I have to do them a favor and put them down, others are fresh dumped and still in fair health. I take them to the vet who cut rates my visits because he knows what I do for them out of my own pocket. I've recently got two that will stay here, one is a full blood "Rat terrier" or "Feist" by appearance their is no difference, some tree as the terrier others chase small ground animals and were used for vermin around ones house. The other is a mix of Doby and pitbull, seems to have a mean streak in her that I doubt I could adopt with clear conscience of worries that it might attack a child. So I have 2 more that live with me and the three Rottys. Both were about 1.5 years old when I picked them up the Fiest is skiddish but a rabbit finding chaser so good for hunting the other if I can train her to act on command as my Rottys do will be useful if she continues to attack the other dogs and ignore my commands I'll have to put her down.

Anyway off main topic. It seems o be the American way to ignore our own peoples needs and cross the ocean to do what they could do right near their homes. We send humanitarian aid to many other countries while the garbage piles up at home, there exist those who adopt dogs sent here from Iraq simply for bragging rights of having a dog of war or of Haiti tragedy, same with the kids of foreign origin.

Americans expect our government to handle the disenfranchised children while complaining about how high their taxes are. Granted, closing the ridiculous programs like NASA and all the programs funded like "why do purple butterfly's avoid mating with speckled butterfly's" and their is a list of millions upon millions to these ridiculous things and putt the icing on the cake 2 wars that are none of our business but we send troop anyway, it just makes the rich richer while the federal gov. sues Arizona wasting money to block the governor and state congress from stopping the war on their borders I regret the day I signed on to be a Marine, too young to see it was a money making ploy. Brand new never un-crated helicopters pushed off the decks of aircraft carriers saying, it "cost too much" to bring them home on ships that were headed home anyway, that's when I realized that if they were brought home the helicopter business wouldn't get to sell any new ones until the next war.

Current America sucks ball park franks or cigars that have the Monica flavor, we will have to have a complete collapse and revolution to change what we have, just hide and watch what comes out of the new congress, I'm betting same shit different fat rich men running the show, leaving our shelters for kids in need of homes packed to the top. With too many rules for a guy like me to take a boy of 10 years old and ending his bouncing around foster to foster then tossed out on his ass at 18, with no family to turn to for just feelings of having a loving person or family for moral support on days he needs direction, I think about it and it is sad, peace and love, dusty

Dusty, you had me crying. When you see what is really going on right in front of you in black and white,it really hits home

You are a wise and smart man. Any child would have benefited learning from you.

I agree with your opinion. Don't know anything about adoption costs or fees, but the emphasis does seem to be on pets or non-local children like you said.

Nah, you didn't rant too much! :-)

frogy, so glad to see you here. I didn't think it was too bad, but as you can see by how many left comments, I bet there are more pet lovers out there then children lovers.

Thanks for taking the time to read and also comment. Not much of that happening either.

Hope you have a great day

My name is Shina Bella, 23 years old and a mother of a 10 months old baby girl, her name is Charlotte. I want to give her up for adoption to a family who has been dreaming of having a new addition to thier family for long, I am giving my baby up for adoption because i was not prepared to be a mother now due to my studies and aslo due to my fanincial status, and secondly the father bailed out, said he wasn't ready for a baby now and ran away leaving us alone. As beautiful as Charlotte is, i can not give her the life she deserves and also want to concentrate more on my education and job at the same time. If you are that family that can give my baby the life she deserves for more information and for more photos at email (shinbello@yahoo.com).

I appreciate your position, but have to ask...have you fostered or adopted at all? If not, I can't imagine why you would judge anyone who opens their home to adoption, be it foreign, domestic, or even a homeless animal.
