Talk To Your Doctor About Melatonin
There are many sleeping pills on the market these days. Most have side effects. Like feeling groggy even the next day. I also I had some really bad dreams from some of the over the counter sleeping pills. That is why I take Melatonin. I never wake up still feeling groggy and foggy headed.
I was working swing shift. By the time I got to third shift I could not fall asleep. I have 5 children and did not want to take something that would knock me out. I wanted something that would just aid me to fall asleep but still be able to wake up and be clear minded if I had to.
A friend of mine is a RN. She recommend I try Melatonin. She said it only costs a few dollars, is all natural with NO drugs. She picked me up a bottle and I tried the Melatonin.
At first it was weird because I was used to some of the other sleeping pills. They would just knock you out. With Melatonin, because it is natural if you are not relaxed and ready to go to sleep you can actually fight it and not feel dopey. You just will not go to sleep.
I would just take one of my Melatonin, lay down and read or watch TV and next thing I would be waking the next morning feeling refreshed and clear headed. Wow this was great!

Melatonin - The Natural Sleep Aid
Melatonin is a hormone made by the pineal gland. Melatonin regulates your sleep and wake cycle. Natural Melatonin levels drop as we age. The synthesis and release of Melatonin are stimulated by darkness and suppressed with light. It is like our bodies clock.
Melatonin is mostly used for sleep disorders like insomnia, jet lag and for people who work swing shifts.
Melatonin is taken in small doses. The one I take is only 3mg. It also comes in 5mg. I take it about 30 minutes to an hour before I am ready to go to sleep. I love melatonin as a sleep aid. I can now fall asleep faster and sleep through the night. I would recommend to commit at least 7 - 8 hours of sleep. Getting a good night sleep is key to your being healthy.

gr82bme, I had heard about Melatonin but have been reluctant to try it. I've been concerned that it may not work for me. I think after reading your article I will have to at least give it a try. I like the way you explained how it works.
I've never considered taking a sleep aid, even though I have much difficulty falling asleep and then staying asleep. Melatonin is on my shopping list.
If only when we lay our heads down we could leave the troubles of the world behind...Good Hub on a good Natural Sleep Aid. Not everyone has the same luck, no matter what they take. But you've covered it all. Thanks, gr83bme.
Do you need a prescription for this? My son is constantly saying that he cannot sleep so I will tell him to talk to the doctor about this. Thanks.
I used to sleep like a log when I was young. As I have gotten older I don't sleep quite as well as when I was younger. I wonder why?
I think natural sleep aids like you suggest are a good alternative to other products on the market. Voted up for useful information. Thanks!
Very interesting and informative. It's worth a try. I usually sleep without difficulty but occasionally have a wide eye night. Thank you for sharing
That's a really great idea, especially as you have tried it yourself.
Wish I had had this a few years back when I had to be at work at 4:30 AM , I took Tylenol PM's I think it was and I had to take them at 8 pm to get me to sleep by 11 if I was lucky. I love all these natural things! Great hub.
A good sleep starts up a good day! Thanks for sharing this insightful hub, my friend. You never fail to be one of the most wonderful reasons why I keep coming back to HP after some very hectic schedules! I missed your hubs!
I love this product. Yesterday I had a migraine and I am on medications for it. I took over the counter pain relievers then my prescribed medication after seven hours of laying down and not being able to sleep I took this. After 20 minutes it got rid of my migraine and I fell right to sleep. Oh and I was planning on sleeping in the next morning but I felt great and woke right up. Love It!
I use Melatonin too! It is all natural. Works fast and you do not feel groggy the next morning.
Sounds like there could be more benefits here than meets the eye, to be that good naturally. Right now my husband could use some but most nights I plop on my belly and get a foot and calf massage and that is all it takes, I can't lift a foot for the second coating, or so I am told, lol.
I have an alterated sleep-wake cycle due to my work and unfortunately Melatonin does not works for me, althought I think it is a valid aid in many situations. Thanks for sharing!
I used to take it when I was in high school to try to sleep when I had the time, it worked really well without side effects.
gre2bme, I'm going to give melatonin a try. I have suffered from sleep deprivation for many years, and it's gotten worse in the last year. I have had times when I've been up for 24 hours or more.
This sounds like a winner! Thanks for sharing this hub!
Melatonin has been a God-send for me.
Well glad I came across this again, I need it! Usually copy good hubs like this that really help people, but have never had sleep probs til the last few nights and it is horrible! Changing meds may be the cause, I will try this now, or talk to pharmacist since I take a blood pressure pill at night now-to make sure it won't drop my pressure too low. I am going to push some buttons up there, I hate seeing good writers under 90 and others write a paragraph if that - that you can't understand enough to respond to and have 95. I know I am not politically correct but if I think it I usually say it. The scoring here suxs sometimes and seems to have no rhyme nor reason. Thanks so much for important information!
Really appreciate much for this hub of yours gr82Bme, just happen the case as angel115707, I grew up insomniac...and recently I even take Benadryl to give me a help...it works but well, ended up each day a groggy and dopey me...thanks for such a great sharing, you deserve a three stars award from me...cheers!

I take melatonin and love it, if I am really stressed I take more than one, our body is supposed to produce at least 25mg naturally, but I had horrible sleeping paralysis etc never knowing it was part of melatonin deficiency, I grew up insomniac... hated it...now I am a recovered insomniac..truly...
Also fluoride/fluorine in our water and toothpaste calcifies the pineal gland which produces it and saratonin...makes you wonder why so much insomnia and depression is around...
Great hub, more people need to be aware of this supplement...
